What is Copper?

Copper is a corrosion-resistant metal known for its excellent electrical conductivity and high ductility. It has a distinct orange-red color, which is easily recognizable. Over time, copper forms a bluish-green layer called patina due to oxidation, which adds to its unique appearance. However, copper’s weldability is generally considered moderate to poor.

We offer two types of copper for CNC machining:

  • Copper 101: A nearly pure copper alloy (99.99%) that offers excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, along with high corrosion resistance, ductility, and impact strength.
  • Copper 110 (available via Protolabs Network): A 99.90% pure copper alloy ideal for electrical applications, providing excellent thermal and electrical conductivity, along with strong corrosion resistance.

Key Benefits of Copper

  • Highly ductile and malleable
  • Excellent electrical and thermal conductivity
  • Visually appealing

Copper CNC Machining Applications

Copper is a preferred material in various industries due to its excellent thermal and electrical conductivity. It is widely used in high-power electrical applications, such as the magnetrons found in microwave ovens. With the rise of electric vehicles (EVs), the demand for copper wiring has surged. Copper is essential in many devices, from household appliances to electronics, thanks to its malleability, which allows it to be shaped and routed through tight spaces.
